Welcome to Lyla Edits!

Get help from a publishing intern. Prep your novel for agent inboxes.

I’ve spent my life devouring entire shelves of kid lit, and don’t think I’ll ever grow out of it! I’m passionate about finding and polishing new stories to share with my fellow readers. I got my first dose of slush pile sorting with Dystel & Goderich Literary Management in 2014. From there, I interned for Carly Watters, vice president of P.S. Literary, doing reader reports on partial and full manuscripts as well as some incredible work from clients.

Lyla was a pleasure to work with! Her edits are very thorough, and she always makes herself available to answer questions … I highly recommend her.

~Kelly Barina, YA Fantasy Author, 2016 Pitch América Finalist

Currently, I’m interning with Kate Brauning at Entangled Publishing, where I read slush and pitch contest submissions, and assist with edits for upcoming 2017 titles. I got my bachelor’s from the University of Maryland in English Literature/Creative Writing and Communication. When I wasn’t in class, I spent time as a writing tutor, copy editor, and literary magazine editor. I am an active member of SCBWI and AWP.

Working with Lyla on multiple edits of my query letter was an extremely enjoyable and productive experience … Lyla is warm, supportive and frank. I can’t recommend her enough!

I’m a writer too, so I know how nerve-wracking and difficult it can be to revise your babies–but I’m committed to partnering with you and making your ideas shine. I offer critiques on submission materials and full manuscripts for YA and select MG/Adult genres. To get started, email me at lylalawless@gmail.com.
